The Plaza
Mesilla Plaza is the center of town: a grassy square lined with Territorial-style adobe buildings, brick sidewalks, a bandstand and the Basilica of San Albino on its north side.

Discover The Plaza
The plaza and the buildings around it are a National Historic Landmark District, declared in 1961. A flag-raising here on November 18, 1854 confirmed United States sovereignty after the Gadsden Purchase. (Wikipedia)
Buildings on the plaza’s east and west sides include Territorial-style structures from the 1850s, among them the original Butterfield stage ticket office and waiting room. Some began as homes and are now shops and restaurants. (Wikipedia)
The bandstand in the middle was torn down in October 2013 and rebuilt by May 2014, in time for the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration. (Wikipedia)
The Old Mesilla Association’s monthly schedule lists a farmers and craft market on Fridays and Sundays, Cinco de Mayo, Mariachi Sundays in September and October, and Christmas Eve on the plaza. (Old Mesilla Association)
